How It Works

This Year’s Theme: Countries of the Olympics

I'M EXCITED! WHERE AND WHEN CAN I START?

You may begin anytime after 4pm from any dock (Juniper Trail, Terrace Court or Nedow's Bay). This is not a race. Prizes are awarded based on poker hand ranking, not on speed. We want all participants to have fun and remain safe, so please take your time. The event ends at 6pm - head to the After Party at this time for continued fun and the announcing of the best Dock Host and Poker Float winner! We will have committee members stationed at Nedow's Bay to answer any questions and sell additional cards.

HOW WILL I GET AROUND?

Only human powered watercraft are allowed to be used i.e. inflatables, paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, row boats, water bikes or pedal boats. No sailboats or motorized watercraft are allowed. Individual participants may share the same watercraft (for example, two individual participants in the same two person tandem kayak). Personal flotation devices are required for participation.

I REALLY WANT TO WIN! HOW MANY CARDS CAN I PLAY?

There is a Maximum of 2 cards per participant. You may choose to play an additional card for a Dock Host, or a person not on the water. Players are encouraged to keep scorecards in gallon ziplocks to keep them dry. Bring your scorecard to the After Party as it will serve as your "ticket" to enter.

LET'S GET INTO THE DETAILS...HOW DO I PLAY?

At each dock players will be "given" a playing card to track on their scorecard.

Hand rankings will be determined by the highest ranked 5-card hand contained among your cards collected by visiting docks. Players need to visit at least 5 docks to make a complete hand. Ties will be broken by using high cards among the additional cards.

If any card drawn is a duplicate of a card previously drawn at another dock, that card must be re drawn. No hand can have duplicate cards (for example: you cannot have more than one King of Hearts in your hand).

In a straight an Ace can count as low (A, 2, 3, 4, 5) OR high (10, J, Q, K, A). All other hands Aces count as high cards (a pair of Aces beats a pair of Kings).'

WHAT AM I PLAYING FOR?

A priceless experience with friends and family as well as the opportunity to support the care of beautiful Lake Leelanau! The lucky winners will take home a prize basket FULL of items generously donated from Leelanau county small business owners!
